Astrology, the Time of Your Life

As we approach this momentous occasion on our calendar i.e. the end of the Twentieth Century, the end of the Age of Pisces, the beginning of the next Millenium, the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, and the first week of the last month of the last century, it is a good idea to look at time in relation to Astrology.

the time of your life

Saturn is the mythological figure of Time, also known as Cronus and we have the expression 'Father Time'. This indicates a certain authoritative figure, and we are all ruled by time.

Most of human misery and dissatisfaction comes from either having too much time or not enough, or failing to achieve something within a certain time frame. We praise people who have a perfect sense of timing', especially in performance arts and comedy.

So we are all acutely aware of its existence, and yet we cannot contain it.

We have reached a point in our development where the precise measurement of sections of time has become paramount; we are ruled by the clock, usually a digital one, as our working and leisure hours are compartmentalised into sections.

Thousands of years ago, time and the seasons were measured by observations of the stars and the planets and the cycles of the moon. It was important to know when to sow crops and when to expect the dark winters and seasonal changes, but nobody needed to catch the 7.42 to Euston!

What would happen if we could not measure our world so precisely?

Astrology is about timing; a chart is set up for the moment of birth and the cyclical nature of the planets directly impinges on the life of the individual.

At the age of around twenty nine, Saturn returns to its position at the time of birth, and this stage is seen as an important milestone in a person's life. It is a time to assess what has been achieved so far, and perhaps make changes for the future.

It could be argued that this is the point where we really become adult and reach maturity, having to face difficult decisions regarding our relationships and our status professionally.

Consequently, many people face a crisis at this point by going through divorce, or having a child, or being made redundant or perhaps losing a parent. Saturn teaches us to get real, and deal with life as it is, not how we would like it to be.

Time is a precious gift; how we choose to use it can make the difference between a life complete and fulfilled or empty and without meaning.
